The Low Down On Ketogenic

A keto diet is well known for being a low carb diet and the body will produce ketones in the liver to be used as energy. It’s referred to as many different names – ketogenic diet, low carb diet, low carb high fat, LCHF…etc.

When you eat foods that are high in carbs, your body will produce glucose and insulin. Since the glucose is being used as the primary energy source, your fats are not needed and are therefore stored. By lowering the intake of carbs, the body goes into a state known as ketosis.
During this state, we produce ketones, which are produced from the breakdown of fats in the liver. This is normal process for our body to adapt to using fat for energy instead of carbs, also known as being “fat adapted”.

Once the body is “fat adapted” it will start burning ketones as the primary energy source. Thus forcing our bodies to burn fat, as well as improve physical and mental well being.

There are many benefits to this WOE other than weight loss but I will save that for another day.
